Community Service Projects

ervice to the community is one of the key parts of being a St. Albert Kinsmen. The Club’s
history is full of numerous service projects where St. Albert Kinsmen gave back to St. Albert and
its surrounding communities. Service is so important to the heart of being a Kinsmen that the
Club has a dedicated Service Director who helps brainstorm, coordinate and promote service
projects throughout the year.

Festive Spirit Competition - Light Up St. Albert
Started in 2021, the Festive Spirit Competition - Light Up St. Albert is an annual event that
happens in late November and runs to Christmas. The competition is a great way for St. Albert
families to “spread the Season’s Cheer” by festively decorating their homes and streets. The
Competition features two categories - “most festive home” and the “most festive street”.
Submissions are judged by “Santa’s (Kinsmen) elves and winning entrants receive a cash gift
where a portion of winnings are donated on their behalf by the Kinsmen Club to a charity of their
choice.
Pizza and Coffee for Essential Workers
The Club looks forward to building on the excitement of this project and offering it again in 2023.
In late 2020 the Kinsmen Club of St. Albert wanted to show gratitude and thanks to our front line
workers keeping us safe through COVID. The Club donated approximately $ 1200 in pizza and
coffee gift cards to our St. Albert and Morinville front line workers working in Fire and Police
Services, the medical profession, Public Works and Transit.
Easter Egg Colouring Competition & Easter Loot Bags
During Easter 2021, the Kinsmen and Kinette Clubs of St. Albert launched an “Easter Egg
Colouring Competition” for local kids. Each family who entered our competition won a large gift
basket full of easter toys, chocolates and candies. Our clubs also coordinated the preparation of
over 515 Easter gift loot baggies to be delivered for deserving children through the Morinville
and St. Albert food banks and a local St. Albert institution.

National Day of KINdness
Every mid February, the Kinsmen Club of St. Albert participates in the Kin National Day of
KINdness. Held in conjunction with the founding date of Kin Canada, the National Day of
KINdness is our way to pass on a “random act of Kindness”. In 2022, the Kin Club of St. Albert
shared $ 12,000 worth of grocery gift cards with shoppers at local grocery stores in St. Albert.
The Club also “matched” shopper purchases of food bank care packages and donated an
additional $ 4,000 to the St. Albert Foodbank.
Previous National Day of KINdness events included purchasing coffee for shoppers at local coffee
shops and the purchase of “free skating” and “free swim” hours for families at City of St. Albert
facilities.

Serving our Community’s greatest need is at the heart of what the St. Albert Kinsmen is about. We
look forward to being in the community and to continue giving back to our wonderful community for
many years to come.
